“Are you ready?” If you’ve been on SNS lately, you’ve probably heard this line

Are you ready?”
And before you even realize it, your body’s already doing the move. That’s the power of Mark’s ‘1999’ Hiplet Challenge, the latest dance craze lighting up the internet!
On April
7, 2025, NCT’s Mark dropped his long
awaited first full album, The Firstfruit, featuring the title track ‘1999’.
The song is a perfect cocktail of 90s nostalgia and modern hip-hop beats,
wrapped up in Mark’s signature style.
But the real cherry on top?
The Hiplet choreography that came with it a unique fusion of ballet and hip-hop
that’s taken over global
social media!
The
Unexpected Beginning: Divaville Queen Gabi

In this quirky universe, Gabi is a dancer with a hilarious alter ego a self declared Hollywood star.
Her fictional company, Toto Entertainment, created a group called “RealGuys.”
During a charity bazaar plan, Jamie a member of RealGuys and a former New York Ballet dancer starts talking about a crossover project.
At this
time, NCT has several units such as 127, DREAM, U, and WISH, so the idea of NCT
ballet comes out in relation to this.
This fun concept caught the attention of the real Mark from NCT and he actually
reached out!
Mark met with the Divaville Queen Gabi team at SM Entertainment, and together, they created a cheeky but impressive new choreography.
That
fateful meeting led to the creation of the NCT ballet style greeting starting
with a hilarious mashup of NCT’s signature greeting and
ballet moves.
It was a composition aimed at laughter, but it drew attention by exquisitely blending
with '1999'. Eventually, the now it’s been a famous Hiplet routine.
What
began as a playful experiment turned into something surprisingly artistic. When
paired with the sleek sound of ‘1999’, the choreography struck a chord with fans.
In an interview from the show, Mark even promised to perform the Hiplet version
of the dance if he won 1st place on a music show and he did just that!
He kept his word by dancing the Hiplet encore alongside NCT WISH, gaining massive
attention and admiration.
A Challenge that Breaks Boundaries
This
wasn’t just another TikTok
moment.
It became a genre-blending, culture respecting challenge, where ballet dancers,
hip-hop pros, and even casual fans came together to celebrate the art of
movement.
It even drew participation from TWICE’s Mina, who, with her ballerina background, delivered an elegant and
powerful Hiplet version that fans couldn’t stop talking about.
In just a short time, the challenge racked up millions of views, inspiring
people across the globe to try it themselves.
