If you’ve been in the K-pop world for even a little while, you’ve probably heard the word “stan” tossed around everywhere. But here’s the thing: not every stan is the same. Even within the same fandom, the way people support their idols can be totally different. Some love every member equally, some only have eyes for their bias, and some just vibe casually from the sidelines.

Curious to see which type of fan you are? Let’s break down the nine most common fan types you’ll find in K-pop fandoms.
The All-fan
These are the fans who truly love the
group as a whole. Every member, every stage, every group photo yes, they’re
here for all of it. They don’t play favorites and get the most joy when the
full team shines together.

🖤 “OT4 or nothing! "
The Bias-fan
Ah yes, the “I only have eyes for one”
type. Bias-fans pour most of their energy into their one favorite member.
Buying albums? It’s all about pulling that photocard. Fansign entries? Only if
their bias is involved. It’s laser-focused love.

The “All + Bias”
Think of this as the middle ground. They
adore the group as a whole, but still have that one member who makes their
heart skip a little faster. They’ll often introduce themselves with, “I’m an OT
fan, but my bias is ___.”

💖“Love OT7, but Jungkook owns my heart ”
The Light-fan
Sometimes life comes first school, work,
or just reality in general. Light-fans don’t splurge on every album or fly
across the country for concerts, but they still keep up through YouTube,
TikTok, and social media. They’re the casual enjoyers who love idols in a way
that fits their lifestyle.
👀 “Just watching YouTube fancams ”
The Hardcore Fan
This is the classic stan blueprint:
albums stacked on the shelf, alarms set for comeback drops, tickets ready for
concerts and fan meets. Hardcore fans are usually the backbone of a fandom,
keeping the community alive and loyal through thick and thin.

The Casual/Newbie Fan
These fans often stumble into the fandom
by accident maybe through a drama OST, a variety show appearance, or one viral
hit song. Before they know it, they’re looking up fancams at 2AM. They might
not dive fully into fandom life, but they’re definitely cheering from the
sidelines.

😳“‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ was my entry point ”
The Core-fan
Core-fans dedicate themselves to the
underrated or less spotlighted members. They’re the ones making fan edits,
sharing fanart, and spreading the word like, “Everyone needs to know how
amazing this member is!” It’s a mix of passion and a little bit of missionary
zeal.
The Sasaeng (The Dark Side)
Every fandom has its problem fans, and
sasaengs are unfortunately that category. These are the boundary-crossers who
stalk idols outside of schedules or try to get private info. Nobody likes
them—not the idols, not the agencies, and not the fandom.
🚫 “No Sasaeng ❌ BLINKs respect boundaries”
The Old-school & The Ex-fan
Some fans stay loyal to their first
loves still supporting first or second gen idols years later. Others
eventually drift away, either leaving the fandom life completely or switching
allegiance to a new group. And hey, that’s okay. Stanning changes as life does.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t really
matter what type of fan you are. What counts is how you enjoy your idol journey
and the love you bring to the fandom. Whether you’re an all-fan, a bias-fan, or
a light-fan juggling real life, you’re still part of the story.
So, tell me what kind of fan are you?
